OUR VILLAS
The first of our luxury villas, Tarāpunga, named after the local seabirds, and similarly nesting high above the bay — is the epitome of coastal luxury. The villa boasts incomparable views of the bay and surrounding islands, with floor to ceiling windows providing unfettered access to the natural environment. With a 17m heated infinity pool sitting level with the horizon on an expansive outdoor entertaining area, Tarāpunga truly brings the incredible scenery to the fore. Not to mention myriad other features such as private sauna, tennis court, and gourmet kitchen, this residence is undeniably immaculate.
Weka is our second villa — only available for reservation concurrently with Tarāpunga — a smaller but beautifully designed quarters, ideal for guests, young people or staff, just 20m behind the main residence.
The third of our villas, Vineyard Cottage, sits amongst the vines of our famed winery and enjoys views of the beautiful rolling green hills of both vineyard and native bush. With every modern convenience at your fingertips — gourmet kitchen, swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, and open fireplace to name a few — the quaintness of this villa is matched only by the luxury therein.
All the villas on our property have been carefully designed and curated to complement our natural domain — in the same way the land traces below the waterline, the Paroa Bay Winery experience is continuous. From the beautifully landscaped garden areas, to solar power generation, through to the careful interior design of our villas — every aspect of our estate is a considered part of this continuum of land, sky, and sea.
This is expressed wholeheartedly in the offerings at our restaurant Sage and the wines produced at Paroa Bay Winery. At Sage Restaurant, we emphasise sustainably fished and farmed meats, alongside locally and estate grown ingredients which join together in our carefully crafted dishes. Sage Restaurant takes inspiration from traditional cuisine, the fruits of the nearby ocean, and archetypal New Zealand ingredients — resulting in a unique and creative dining experience in one of the most astounding natural settings New Zealand has to offer.
Every dish served at Sage Restaurant is matched to a Paroa Bay wine — and every aspect of our wines are grown, pruned, and made onsite, by hand. Our winery is a boutique, low-yield, dry-grown vineyard that relies purely on the land and the natural cycles of terroir to produce our grapes. The ethos of our wine is to remain in line with the earth, to exist sustainably on the land and sky that give everything to our product — which is why we produce low-volume, high-quality vintages that we are truly proud of. In this sense, Paroa Bay wines are literal manifestations of our environment and our hand, giving them a distinct character and nuance.
As the land traces below the high water mark it also traces up — and it is our goal with our Paroa Bay Winery to be part of the continuity of nature — to exist serenely and to complement the natural world, and by doing so, we provide our guests with an experience of complete relaxation and luxury in this unique and awe-inspiring setting.
