The Vineyard

Clos Ostler is a true monopole estate, meaning a single vineyard under one ownership, with every Clos Ostler wine grown exclusively from that site.

Set on a north-facing limestone escarpment near Duntroon, the estate spans approximately eight hectares and is planted predominantly to Pinot Noir, with smaller plantings of Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. From this single site, each variety, clone and vintage offers a different expression of the vineyard.

The Vines

Pinot Noir forms the heart of Clos Ostler, planted to Dijon clones 115, 667 and 777 alongside Abel. Smaller plantings of Pinot Gris and Chardonnay Clone 95 provide further expressions of the vineyard.

Each variety and clone has been selected for its suitability to the limestone soils and cool growing conditions of the site.

Viticulture

At the edge of viable viticulture, each growing season demands a considered approach. Clos Ostler is dry-grown and managed block by block, responding to the soils, vines and conditions of each season.

Yields are kept low and fruit is harvested by hand, with picking decisions guided by variety, ripeness and the conditions of the vintage. The approach is led by the vineyard, allowing each vintage to reflect the conditions of its growing year.
