An Isthmus is defined as a thin strip of land that separates two bodies of water — and in our case the bodies of water happen to be two of the most astounding mountain lakes in the world. The strip of land, known as The Neck is a mere 1000m across at its thinnest and with famed Lake Wānaka to the east and the crystalline Lake Hāwea to the West, we couldn’t have imagined a better place for the newest luxury destination for The Lindis Group portfolio — Mt Isthmus, an exceptional sole use premium villa experience.

Sitting on a 7000 acre station, the Mt Isthmus villa looks out over Lake Hāwea — which is one of New Zealand’s best kept secrets. Rugged and steep mountain ranges climb straight out of the lake’s shores on all sides, and with some of the clearest waters in the country it really is a sight to be savoured.

As always The Lindis Group has taken a considered approach to the design of the villa, looking to create unity within the surrounding topography. The building itself is directly inspired by the mountains — the lake facing and rear façades mimicking the mountains with jagged geometric cornices of different heights, in direct correlation to the silhouettes of the mountains behind them. From above, the design comes into its own, as the curved lines of the roof appearing as the contours of a flowing river, hugging the natural curves of the surrounding hills. The roof and external cladding are constructed using a copper finish, blending the building beautifully into the archetypal rusty colours of the area. The interior is finished with clean polished concrete and the superlative decoration The Lindis Group has become known for.

As is typical with The Lindis Group destinations, the villa leaves nothing to be desired. The four suites are the epitome of luxury with super king-size beds; each with an ensuite, the latest in interior furnishings and views that make waking up an unforgettable experience.

The dining facilities are of the highest standard with a state of the art kitchen and with the luxury of having our chefs take care of your meals providing five star service and creatively refined menus.

The villa also features a media room and a spa pool to make sure our guests can relax in every way. With several spacious entertaining areas, and one featuring an in floor gas fire pyramid, Mt Isthmus is the ideal getaway for families, friends, or small work groups to soak in each other’s company in an incredible environment, inside and out.

The unparalleled luxury doesn’t simply pertain to the villa itself — with the surrounding areas catering to a diverse and heart racing range of activities unique to the area. Ensconced in the adventure tourism region of New Zealand, our guests will find skiing, kayaking, rock climbing, jet boating, mountain biking, horse trekking, and sky diving almost literally on their doorstep. For those of a slightly slower orientation, the area offers world class fly fishing, back country hiking, and not to mention some of New Zealand’s most revered vineyards — world famous for their Central Otago Pinot Noir grapes.

Sandwiched between two gorgeous glacial lakes, and with Mt Isthmus looming over our shoulders, it can be quite easy to forget the world exists outside our premium villa experience.
